Rally d’Oro III – 7-21-1957 – 1st Place Porsche
Here is the trophy given to the top placing Porsche in the very popular Rally D’Oro, run by the Santa Monica Chapter of the FCCA. This trophy was sponsored by Competition Motors, a well-know sports car dealer in the 1950s. Thanks to Ron Jones, driver of the winning Porsche 356 Normal for this photo.
I just found my father’s, William P. Dornisch, dash plaques from the Santa Monica Rally D’Oro (7-21-57). When I was little, I seem to remember a trophy like this around the house.
I’ll have to check the rest of his boxes.
Hi Walton. Yes, Rally d’oro was a huge event. I have a copper plated bowl that served as a trophy for this event. I also have a complete set of Check Point newsletters published by the Santa Monica FCCA.
